Macheta is a small village situated at over 2000msl in the beautiful Andean countryside of Cundinamarca. The hot springs (Los Volcanes) are set in an ancient volcanic forest with an icy cool river running through it which serves as the shower useful for cooling off quickly).
The site itself contains 4 public swimming baths with a depth of 0.5m to 1.7m, all heated to between 36 to 42 degrees by the naturally occurring thermal springs of the area. The water is rich in mineral content (calcium, magnesium, iron, sulphur, sodium) and reputed to be an excellent healer of common ailments particularly in the elderly.
You can spend your day swimming, floating and generally relaxing in the hot baths. In addition there is a spectacular natural steam room for those that like it really hot. When you can take the heat no longer there is a short walk you can do to appreciate the local countryside.
The site is well maintained (strangely built in a faux Swiss lodge style) and there are clean changing rooms, toilets, lockers and a café / restaurant. You will need to bring your own towel and swimming costumes.
